Click a Small Arrow at the top left-corner of Disk Utility window and click on Show All Devices. From here, select your Startup Disk, hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode. Enter: sudo /Applications/Install macOS High Sierra.app/Contents. In the Utilities folder, open the Terminal. Type everything else exactly as you see it (or better yet, copy and paste it from here). (The name of the version of macOS, is the one you want to install on the key and downloaded.) Instead of '/Volumes/ MyVolume', type the name of your USB drive. On an Apple silicon computer, shut down your Mac, then press and hold the Power button until the startup options screen appears. If you made a Time Machine backup you can restore these files easily enough once you've completed your macOS installation. With your volume mounted, you can use the command line to manually remove files with the rm command Or use the OS X installation disc that came with your machine or buy a new one to. Download the relevant macOS or OS X installer from Apple, then use Terminal to create a USB installer you can boot up from. I did this anyway and I'm not 100% sure it was required or made a difference. Install macOS or OS X from Internet Recovery Mode, which you can boot into by holding option+command+R while your Mac powers up. You may also need to mount the individual volume with theĬommand.
